Raj’s Experience and Background
Raj Dhaliwal has been living in Ward 5 since he moved to Calgary from India at a young age. He grew up shooting hoops and playing hockey and cricket at Prairie Winds Park. Raj attended Lester B. Pearson High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in international relations from the University of Calgary. He earned a second bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the Schulich School of Engineering. Currently Raj works as an Institute Department Lead at Suncor Energy where he’s been responsible for multimillion dollar projects, managing multiple teams, and liaising with departments throughout the province.
An active community leader, Raj volunteers with newcomers at the Calgary Public Library and regularly attends the Sikh temple in Martindale. As a frequent guest on RED FM, Raj has been an important voice for the city in communicating how policy decisions at all levels of government impact our lives at a community level. Raj served on the Board of Directors for the North East Family Connections Society where he oversaw the development and implementation of programs that support families and youth.
Raj’s deeply rooted connection to Ward 5 inspires his commitment to serving his community and fighting for an equitable, fair, and inclusive tomorrow.

Raj believes in taking care of people. With his experience working with the North East Family Connections Society, Raj knows that support services are crucial to healthy communities. He’s ready to stand up and make sure that Ward 5 doesn’t get left behind.
Having seen the impact of privatization in Ward 5, Raj pledges to support front-line workers. Additionally, he is advocating for more anti-racism work at City Hall.
